All scooters in england and most of europe are restricted to 30mph which as we all know is dangerous and impratical, in order to de-restrict a scooter you must first check you can(eg. your old enough and that your insurance covers it.
There are several ways that a scooter can be restricted, but the main ways are a restrictor in the entrance of the exhaust that is in the way of a washer or a cone inside of the exhaust or a closed off restrictor pipe(Resonator tube). If you look down the exhaust and see a washer all you have to do is tap it out with a hammer and punch, then pull it out dont let it fall down the exhaust. If you can see a pipe coming off the downpipe this needs to be removed or cut off, to remove cut it off and use a bit of the cut off pipe and weld it over the hole after grinding the hole edge smooth for a good hold on the weld, also due to the edges having no protection from the wet they will rust so get some high tempature black paint or some laquer, If you see no washer or closed off pipe sprouting off the exhaust you will probably have a restricting cone within this means you'll have to cut into the widest part of the exhaust with a dremel or something resembling one, then remove the cone by knocking it out.
Thats the main part done next you will have to check if there is a restrictor in the variator look at the diagram below, you need to remove the bolt on the side of the drive case(dont worry there are no liquids in this part of the engine, then undo the bolt on the side of the variator pull it all off till you have removed the angled shine plate facing towards the engine and pull the spacer in between.
My Scooter
This is my scooter and i have only purchused it about a month ago, it's a formula 50 L/C its a 51 reg bike and it was believed to be standard when i bought it.
I am now starting my project of makin the best and fastest formula 50 on the market, i am goin to explain in the best details possible what ive done and the improvements it has given my bike.
November 2003
Stage 1
This month i have done just some general things. 1st of all i have fitted a leo vince ZX exhaust to save the hassle of deristricting the orignal exhaust as it time consuming. I bought this exhaust on the reason that its not too expensive but has a good bhp advantage to the price. They need lots of care as they are prown to rusting if left wet after a ride, i am really interested in getting hold of the MK Pro Race exhaust but these are around £200+ but have great results on a big bore kit or tuned engine. I have also removed the mirrors to give it a better look i have also put a green neon under the underside of the bike to give it a better street presance.
Next Month Air and Electrics.
